What’s in a name?
Leifmark honors the bold spirit of Leif Ericson, and the historic mark he made as a sea-faring explorer nearly 500 years before Columbus. The first European to discover North America, he built a Norse settlement around 1000 A.D. on the northern tip of what is now Newfoundland, which Leif named Vinland. After a winter there, he sailed back home to Greenland with a cargo of wine grapes and timber, making Leif the first Viking to convert New World biomass into higher-value products. Skol!
